The Original
Sîpan Sezgin Tekin
“I’M NOT MAD, I’M SUFFOCATING WITHIN YOUR REALITY”
— Antonin Artaud
The Original stands as an investigation and reaction to how we see ourselves and how we present ourselves to others.
The performance views this repetitive event as a form of madness and searches for a poetry of madness, and the influence of madness on language.
The Original centers on storytelling through a collage of personal narratives, texts by Antonin Artaud, and the positioning of identity. It grapples with the essential question: who am I? And why is that question so important?
“Stories embody resistance and serve as testimonies of triumph. And as long as the fight for justice continues, Sezgin Tekin will keep spreading and passing on these stories.”
