LAFS #8 - IKA SCHWANDER & OUMAR DICKO
“è vero è vero è vero” (vertaald: ‘het is waar het is waar het is waar’) waren de woorden die de 17-jarige schilderes Artemisia Gentileschi in 1612 uitsprak tijdens het proces tegen Agostino Tassi, de man die haar verkrachtte. Deze performance is geïnspireerd op het tijdloze verhaal van Judith en Holofernes en op Artemisia Gentileschi’s schilderij, waarin het hoofd van haar verkrachter wordt afgebeeld als de gedode Holofernes.
Terwijl Gentileschi het hoofd van haar verkrachter symbolisch afhakte in haar schilderij, draagt regisseur Ika Schwander het tussen haar benen. è vero è vero è vero toont de nasleep van seksueel geweld en laat de tijdloosheid van pijn en verzet zien.
EN – This performance is inspired by the timeless story of Judith and Holofernes and Artemisia Gentileschi’s painting, in which the head of her rapist is depicted as the slain Holofernes. è vero è vero shows the aftereffects of sexual violence and demonstrates the timelessness of pain and resistance.
I had three options: wife, mother or nun
But I wanted some epic use for my excellent body
Some heroism
So instead I became a murderer
I killed a man and left his body in his bed
I only took his head
I said goodbye to his army

And now I am returning home with his head between my legs
There is no better place for him to be than between my legs

If I would be Judit in this soft and fragile century:
