Rodrigo Batista
Furieus is hij, de Braziliaanse theatermaker Rodrigo Batista. In deze tweeledige solo vol expliciete beelden, sloganesk taalgebruik en bloederige porno, gooit hij zijn eigen lichaam in de strijd tegen al wat kapitalistisch is.
In (SIDE A) brengt Rodrigo’s razende alter ego een danssolo op een soundtrack van Braziliaanse popsongs. Hij gaat op zoek naar het groteske en het extatische en maakt daarbij een nadrukkelijk seksuele en agressieve energie tastbaar.
The B-SIDE is een intens politiek lichaamsonderzoek waarin hij dekolonisatie als territoriale strijd ontmaskert en pornografie en necropolitiek als uitwassen van een verscheurend kapitalisme blootlegt.
Bonus Track is een videowerk dat een “nieuw” type ideologische kolonisatie ontleedt, gebaseerd op bekende technologieën die gebruikt worden door de Noord-Amerikaanse alt-right: nepnieuws, expliciete vrouwenhaat, racisme, homofobie, samenzweringstheorieën, anarcho-kapitalisme en de daaruit voortvloeiende vernietiging van de Latijns-Amerikaanse democratie.
EN: In this two-part solo full of explicit images, sloganesque language and bloody porn, the Brazilian theatre-maker Rodrigo Batista throws his own body into the fray against all that is capitalist. The Bonus Track is a video piece that dissects a “new” type of ideological colonization, based on known technologies used by the North American alt-right.

Rodrigo Batista is een Braziliaanse theatermaker en docent gevestigd in Gent/BE en Amsterdam/NL. Hij studeerde in 2019 af aan DAS Theater Amsterdam, na het afronden van zijn Bachelor (2009) en zijn eerste Master’s Degree (2015) als Theaterregisseur aan de Universiteit van São Paulo in Brazilië.
